Jerry W. Myers – Music Director
Jerry W. Myers serves as Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Jerry has extensive experience as a church organist and music director, serving most recently at First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head, SC, and before that at First Presbyterian, Savannah; First Methodist, Douglasville, GA; First Baptist, Decatur GA among others. For 25 years, he has served as an elementary school music teacher in Georgia, where he garnered teacher of the year honors in 2003. And he continues to teach music in Florida now serving at Tropical Elementary in Plantation.
Beyond his bachelor’s degree in music education, Jerry has received two masters in organ performance from top-ranked universities. After graduation from the highly respected program at Ball State University, he went on to one of our nation’s top-ranked music programs at the University of Michigan. There he studied with the legendary Marilyn Mason, the first woman organist to ever play Westminster Abbey. In addition to his work as a teacher and music director, Jerry has served as the staff organist at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta and has presented organ concerts in 12 states.
Jerry leads a vibrant choir of both professional and volunteer voices, and our enchanting bell choir as well. Currently He also serves as Dean of the Ft. Lauderdale chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
