Oooo, how I love chocolate cake!

Where did you grow up, and what do you remember most about that time?
Born in Miami, I have lived all my life in the south Broward area. Hollywood was a wonderful place to grow up. It was a fairly close-knit community, and our neighborhood was filled with children.

  • What other work did you do before you came to your current work at First Presbyterian?
Trained as a legal secretary, I found the work unrewarding. I started out at First Church as a data entry clerk. By happenstance, word came of a part-time job at a church in Miami, and my church career blossomed. For over 35 years, I have served Presbyterian churches in Hollywood and Miami (27 years), and also worked at Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church (8 years). At First Church, I was Director of a children’s mid-week program, Wacky Wednesday, and Director of a Retreat Center the church operated at one time. I am also a member of the Administrative Personnel Association of the P.C. (U.S.A.), formed to provide church administrators networking and continuing education opportunities.
  • What motivates you in your work here at the church, and what do you like most about what you do?
This is the work I was meant to do. It is most meaningful when I am helping others through difficult times or sharing in their joys.
  • What does your faith mean to you? How does it help you in your daily life?
A life-long Presbyterian, I am an ordained Elder, as well as Deacon. My faith is deep, and personal. God is near me always. I strongly believe in The Golden Rule, and truly strive – though do not always achieve – to live by it.
  • What are some of the things you like to do, hobbies, favorites shows, other activities?
I enjoy reading about nature, Florida history, historical novels, and mysteries (Tess Garritsen, Kathy Reichs, Harlan Coben). I also knit, and enjoy the craft of woodburning. (I have made “pictures” of all the U.S. presidents up to Gerald Ford.) PBS is my favorite for TV, and I really enjoy British programs, Nature, Nova, etc.
